Sapna Maheshwari is a business reporter for The New York Times covering TikTok and emerging media companies. Previously she reported on retail and advertising.
Before joining The Times in 2016, Ms. Maheshwari covered retail and e-commerce at BuzzFeed News and Bloomberg News. Ms. Maheshwari and a colleague won a Front Page Award from the Newswomen's Club of New York in 2015 for their reporting on the rampant use of on-call shifts at retailers such as Victoria's Secret. The chain and several other major retailers changed their staffing policies after the story. She also won a Best in Business award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for her story on the dark past of the Silicon Valley start-up JustFab. The story won in the digital investigations category.
Sapna Maheshwari was featured on Time's list of “140 Best Twitter Feeds of 2014.” She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a native of East Lyme, Conn.
